The “Add Krakatoa to 3ds Max” utility adds an entry to the 3ds Max plugin.ini that controls which plugins are loaded. It looks something like:

Krakatoa=C:\Program Files (x86)\Thinkbox\Krakatoa\3dsMax2010\x64

Are you sure this is your problem? You should manually inspect the plugin.ini in the 3ds Max folder for the machines misbehaving.
